SHO, five others penalised for criminal’s escape

LAHORE, March 1: The Punjab police chief on Saturday suspended the station house officer and fiver other policemen of a Mianwali police station after an alleged criminal fled from their custody. Later, the police officials were arrested and a case was registered against them for negligence.

The suspended officials are SHO Badar Munir, Noor Muhammad, Ziaullah, Liaquat Ali, Khuda Bakhsh and Arif Abbas.

Accused Aamir Ejaz fled from the police custody after he was taken to Mianwali for a court hearing and was being kept at the Saddar Police Station. He fled on Friday night along with two other accused after making a hole in his lockup’s ceiling. Mianwali District Police Officer Malik Abdul Aziz has formed a team for Ejaz’s arrest.

ROBBERIES: Two robbers looted Rs1.1 million from a real estate agent in Sattokatla police precincts on Saturday. Tahir Iqbal was returning home after withdrawing Rs1.1 million from a bank when two robbers stopped him in Punjab Housing Society on gunpoint and fled after snatching the cash. The police registered a case.

Two gunmen intercepted Shabbir and his wife in Gowalmandi police jurisdiction and deprived them of cash, cell phone and gold ornaments worth Rs1.1 million.

Syed Muhammad Ali was deprived of Rs80,000 and cell phone in Qilla Gujjar Singh area while Ejaz and his wife were deprived of Rs8,000, cell phone and jewellery in Khalid Nagar in Nishtar Colony area.

Thieves broke into the cell phone outlet of Muhammad Naseer near Samanabad Morr in Gulshan-i-Ravi police limits and made off with cell phones and accessories worth Rs100,000.

Thieves took away cash and valuables worth Rs400,000 from the house of Khurram Tariq in Sabzazar police limits. He suspected involvement of his maids, Zakrya and Saima, in the theft incident.
