PESHAWAR, March 1: The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) would set up civil registration management system to compile computerised data and issue certificates of birth, death, marriage and divorce in the NWFP.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, Nadra officials during a meeting, presided by provincial general manager Mohammad Khalid Khan, decided to set up computerised registration systems with the help of union councils (UCs) at every district.

The registration would be free of cost but if anyone wanted to get a computerised certificate they would have to pay Rs60, an official of the authority said.

The official said that computerised registration of births, marriages, divorces and deaths had been completed at 32 UCs of Kohat district with the help of an NGO but in other districts the process was delayed due to lack of availability of computers.

The provincial government had allocated Rs5 million for the computerisation of the registration process. The PC-I was prepared and it was decided that UCs would provide one official who will be trained by the Nadra. And computers were to be provided by the Nadra as well. The funds were allocated by the former government but no further progress could be made in this regard.

Presently the UCs are issuing hand-written birth certificates but the computerised certificates would not be tempered. Once the birth is registered in the computerised registration system the registered persons would find it easy to apply for the Computerised National Identity Card and other certificates.

Khalid Khan directed Nadra officials at the swift centres and kiosks to facilitate the people. He asked them to behave in a civilised manner with the customers and facilitate them particularly the elderly and women.
