QUETTA, Feb 28: Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi took over as governor of Balochistan on Thursday.
After taking the oath of office, Nawab Magsi told newsmen that he would initiate a process of reconciliation in the province and hold negotiations with all tribal elders and political groups. He said he was in favour of granting a ‘general amnesty’.
Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai administrated the oath to the new governor at a simple ceremony.
“Resolving the issues of Balochistan and maintaining peace and stability is my top priority, and a political solution to all problems and issues will be found through dialogue,” the governor said, adding that he was a political person and believed in resolving all issues politically.
“I will hold talks with the Baloch militants and other angry groups.”
He said his role would be to bridge the gap between Balochistan and Islamabad, and he would work for maintaining cordial relations between the province and centre as a representative of the federal government. He also said that he would use maximum resources to develop the neglected province.
He said it was the responsibility of the elected members of the assembly to form a government in Balochistan. “I will not interfere in this process. My job is just to see work with whoever forms the government,” Nawab Magsi said.
Caretaker Chief Minister Sardar Saleh Mohammad Bhootani, Acting Chairman Senate Mir Jan Mohammad Khan Jamali, caretaker ministers, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, parliamentary leader of the PPP and leaders of other parties attended the ceremony.
