‘Mushahid’s stance not PML-Q policy’

LAHORE, Feb 28: Former chief minister and PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi says Mushahid Husain’s stance on article 58(2)b is not the party policy.

“Mushahid's stand is not in line with party's stance,” he told newsmen at the Muslim League House here on Thursday, reports APP.

Pervaiz said the PML-Q had elected President Pervez Musharraf, and in case of an impeachment move against him, the party would defend him.

The former chief minister was of the view that threats of president’s impeachment were not in line with good democratic traditions.

Criticising the Sharifs, he regretted that at a time when the transfer of power was about to take place after election, they were raising some irrelevant issues which were neither in the interest of people nor the country.

Our Staff Reporter adds: Pervaiz Elahi said the PML-Q membership drive would be launched at the district level.

He said workers had been directed to launch the membership campaign in a manner that the party emerged as the strongest entity in the days to come.

The former chief minister advised the defeated party candidates to work hard and overcome their shortcomings so that they could regain their seats in future.

Earlier, addressing the PML-Q working committee, Pervaiz said the PML would sit on the opposition benches and play a positive role in parliament.

He said it was the moral duty of media to closely watch the promises being made by the PML-N and the PPP.

The meeting also passed a unanimous resolution expressing confidence in the leadership of Shujaat Husain and Pervaiz Elahi.
