‘Victors must impeach Musharraf’

Published February 29, 2008

LAHORE, Feb 28: The Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Awami National Party are under obligation to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, end his ‘illegal’ rule and hold him accountable for a number of ‘national crimes’, a lawmaker-elect said here on Thursday.

MPA-elect from the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Ali Haider Noor Khan Niazi told a press conference the new parliament must ensure a complete and unconditional restoration of the judiciary headed by chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

He demanded that all ‘illegal’ steps taken by Musharraf under the PCO be annulled and constitutional amendments made during his tenure be revoked.

He said the new parliament must cut president’s powers, stop military operations in tribal areas, Balochistan and Swat, ensure release of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and reverse pro-US policies.
