KARACHI: Suspected robber killed


KARACHI, Feb 28: A suspected robber was killed by a police officer in Jamshed Quarter.

Police said the ASI Safeer Butt along with a constable was going to join his duty at Binori Town mosque on his motorcycle when he was fired upon near Government Boys High School in Patel Para.

They said the ASI also returned fire and killed the shooter, who was later identified as Fareed Shah, 35, resident of Patel Para.

Area SP, Javed Baloch, told Dawn that the suspect was involved in several criminal cases.

He said ASI Butt and the suspect knew each other and the suspect opened fire on the policemen apprehending his arrest.

Woman found strangled

The body of a woman, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found at a desolate place near the Coast Guard office in Korangi.

Zaman Town police said a passerby informed the police about the gunny bag.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said the victim had been strangled.

Clad in a light pink dress, the victim appeared in her mid 30s, hospital sources said.

Later, the body was kept at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for want of identification.

Shot dead

A 25-year-old man was found shot dead in Liaquat Colony, North Karachi.

The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital where the victim was identified as Mohammed Aamir, son of Abdul Munaaf, resident of Hyderabad.

Hospital sources said the young man received four bullets from a very close range.

Surjani police said the victim was staying with his maternal uncle, Abdul Hakeem, who lodged the case against unknown culprits.
