KARACHI: Drive against beggars ordered

KARACHI, Feb 28: The Capital City Police Officer, Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, has ordered all the police officials to take action against beggars under the Vagrancy Act in their respective areas.

He instructed the DIGs of all the three zones, town police officers, SPs and SHOs to improve security arrangements by keeping a watchful eye on suspicious persons, items and vehicles.

Suspicious elements in the garb of small vendors and those hindering a smooth flow of traffic at different arteries, markets and roundabouts, roaming at bridges, underpasses, etc, should be strictly watched, so that crimes could be controlled, he said.

The CCPO asked police not to harass innocent persons during the campaign.

The police chief said genuine hawkers and the public should not be disturbed.

SHO suspended

Taking notice of the fleeing of a criminal from the lock-up of Chawkiwara police station, Capital City Police Officer Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui has ordered the suspension of the Station House Officer, Chaudhry Aslam Gujjar, for his negligence in performing his duties.

An accused escaped from the Chawkiwara police station’s lock-up on Tuesday night.

Three policemen who had been on duty policemen have already been suspended, while one of them arrested.

The capital city police officer directed that strict legal action be initiated against police officials for their negligence. —PPI
