KARACHI, Feb 27: Four-year-old bay filly Taizper reigned ascendancy when she powered her way to a facile seven-and-a-half length’s victory in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

The odds-on-favourite filly from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara was smartly ridden home by former champion rider Mohammad Essa. By making amends she comfortably beat colt Reyan The Great. Chestnut Thanks Naeem finished a length away to secure third place while the colt The Ghazan Prince completed the board after being beaten by a distance.

Earlier, Taizper’s stable mate three-year-old chestnut colt Sayeen Jee followed the footsteps of Tier Jee and Tube Jee when he claimed his maiden win in the opener.

In a closely fought battle favourite Sayeen Jee managed to prevail over filly Guess It’s Me by a distance with Shafi Mohammad in the saddle. Shah Pasand and Jonty Rhodes followed the two in the same order.

The opener was delayed by at least an hour following re-betting thrice due to the withdrawls of Khyber, Dandy Boy and Sing Song one after the other.

Three-year-old bay colt Discreet Cat atoned for two successive losses outpacing filly Sahibzadi by five-and-a-half lengths to land the feature event.

Running in the same pack six-year-old bay Baap Re Baap having won two races on the trot stumbled near a three furlong post and broke his fat lock only to be destroyed. Its rider M. Waseem II though shaken, luckily escaped injuries.

A sudden demise in the family compelled five horses of the same connections to be withdrawn in the second and third races. The horses include Bullet Of Arab and Legend Of Arab in the second race and Arab Hi Arab, Leopard Of Arab and Lion Of Arab in the third race.

Filly Love Pakistan was another favourite to oblige punters when she got the better of colt Yaqeen by three-quarter-of-a-length in a start-to-finish bid.

Outsider Silver City sneaked to a three length’s victory to land the fifth race and surprise all and sundry while the second favourite Qandhar repeated his winning feat by picking up the concluding event.

Owner Pir Pagara, trainer Allah Judrio completed back-to-back double while rider Arshad rode home a brace of winners (Love Pakistan, Qandhar).

The KRC Racing Committee has decided not to conduct races on Sunday to avoid a clash with Derby being held in Lahore. The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Wednesday.
