LAHORE, Feb 26: The four-stroke rickshaw drivers Union on Tuesday protested against the unchecked marketing of sub-standard CNG three-wheelers under the Green Punjab and President's Rozgar Scheme.
Union chairman Navid Ehsan Goraya, president Ghulam Mustafa and secretary-general Ali Hassan said at a press conference at Labour Hall that most of the four-stroke CNG rickshaws being marketed at excessive prices developed serious technical defects within four to six months and were rendered unserviceable. The spareparts of CNG rickshaws were being sold at exorbitant prices but were sub-standard.
They said the buyers of CNG rickshaws were finding it difficult to pay the loan instalments because they had to spend a sizeable portion of their earnings on the maintenance of three-wheelers which had to be taken to workshops again and again. The drivers were also finding it difficult to operate the rickshaws because of disappearance of stands from the provincial metropolis. —Reporter
