MIANWALI, Feb 26: Water at Chashma Barrage reached its dead level because of a reduced inflow in Indus River. As a result, the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) instructed Wapda authorities to close the Chashma Jehlum Link Canal from Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, all down stream exit gates of Chashma Barrage were being closed to fill the reservoir and meet the needs of Chashma hydropower project. Power generation at the hydropower plant has reduced from 184MW to 110MW because of the water shortage.
