Justice Tariq released

ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Justice (retd) Tariq Mehmood was finally released here on Tuesday after 115-day preventive custody when the capital police withdrew its presence from his residence .

Tariq Mehmood also a former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) described the cardiac problem he developed during his detention and change of attitude by the capital administrative after the February 18 general elections as factors behind his release.

Mr Mehmood had developed some heart problem on Monday when he was taken to the Pakistan institute of medical sciences (Pims) for routine examination and the treatment of ailments he is suffering from.

After the examination cardiologist had advised complete rest to Mr Mehmood and some necessary tests after a week. Mr Mehmood however chose to stay home despite doctor’s advice to get admitted in the hospital under complete observation.

The firebrand Mr Mehmood was among those three noted lawyers who were detained soon after the proclamation of emergency rule in the country by President Pervez Musharraf as former army chief on November 3.
