KARACHI, Feb 24: Sohail Tanvir produced a splendid all-round performance as Federal Areas inflicted a crushing innings and 212-run defeat on injury-hit Balochistan with over a day to spare in the Pentangular Cup match at the National Stadium here on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Pakistan all-rounder followed up his five-wicket haul in the first innings with a blistering 132 to help Federal Areas declare their first innings at a mammoth 597 for eight at lunch on the third day of the four-day fixture.
Man-of-the-Match Sohail then claimed three for 42 – match figures of eight for 108 – as Balochistan folded up for a measly 132 in the second innings 49 minutes after the tea interval with all-rounder Kamran Hussain (fever) and paceman Abdur Rauf (Injured) unable to bat.
Resuming at 441-7, Federal Areas added a further 156 runs in the first session when skipper Naveed Qureshi decided to close the innings.
Sohail, who started the day on 38, toyed with the hapless Balochistan bowling with scintillating strokes as he completed his third hundred in first-class cricket. His 174-ball innings contained 19 fours and one six before he was brilliantly caught at long-on by Azharullah who ran about 10 metres to complete the catch.
Wicket-keeper/batsman Naeem Anjum, who finished with an unbeaten 56 (five fours), added 155 with Sohail for the eighth-wicket stand in 125 minutes.
