Protest

SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 24: Traffic on GT Road was suspended when heirs to a man killed by his rival at a village council (panchayat) staged a protest demonstration here on Sunday.

A village council was trying to settle an issue among Imran Arif, Waheed and others. When the council did not give Arif any relief, he got infuriated and opened fire, killing Waheed at the scene. Later, he fled.

In consequence, Waheed’s family and relatives blocked the road, burnt tyres and demanded Arif’s immediate arrest. Muridke Saddar police reached the protest scene, assured the protesters of Arif’s arrest and cleared the road for traffic. — Correspondent
