BAHAWALPUR, Feb 24: The five independent MPs-elect – one member of the National Assembly (MNA) and four members of the Provincial Assembly (MNA) – from the district may not flock together what they earlier planned and may take their separate course for their future politics, Dawn learnt on Sunday.

Earlier, the five MPs-elect had resolved to form a group for a “better bargain” with the future setup.

It is learnt the five were seen attractive towards the parties likely to form governments in the Centre and Punjab. There are reports that MNA Malik Aamir Yar Waran was inclined towards the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) which is likely to form the government in Islamabad.

The four MPAs-elect — Sahibzada Gazin Abbasi, Jahanzeb Waran, Kazim Peerzada and Safdar Gill — were reportedly contacting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, the single largest party in Punjab.

MNA Waran has enjoyed power in the past five years and is interested in enjoying the privileges being a treasury member again. The four MPAs are also desirous of having their grip over the provincial, district and local matters and this is only possible if they join the party in power in Punjab.
