UN chief welcomes poll outcome

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 19: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday welcomed the results of the parliamentary elections in Pakistan saying he is “encouraged by the commitment of all concerned to respect the democratic process”.

In a statement, Mr Ban said he “has been closely following developments in Pakistan” and he commended the people of Pakistan for the largely peaceful conduct of Tuesday’s parliamentary elections.
