LARKANA: Euphoric PPP workers march to Garhi

By Dawn Report

LARKANA, Feb 19: The Pakistan People’s Party candidates who won elections, according to unofficial results, went in procession to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Tuesday to pay homage to their leaders Z.A. Bhutto and Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, who had won PS-36 seat, led the procession, which started from his residence.

The MNAs and MPAs elect offered fateha on the grave of Z.A. Bhutto and Ms Benazir Bhutto and laid floral wreaths amid full throated slogans of “Girti huee dewaron ko aik dhaka aur do’, Jeay Bhutto Sada Jeay, Zindha Hay Bibi Zindha Hay”.

Nisar Khuhro said earlier at a gathering at his residence that “Our leader Ms Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan for elections but alas! She could not see the victory of her party.” PPP had firm belief in ‘non-violence’ and the workers should stick to this principle, he said.

In Hyderabad, jubilant MQM and PPP activists ruled the main roads to express rejoice over victory of their parties following unofficial announcement of results by TV channels.

“Jeay Altaf” and “Jeay Bhutto” were the only slogans which reverberated through Latifabad, Qasimabad and Tandojam.

In Matiari, Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Allahyar, only PPP activists were seen holding rallies.

Rangers caught one Inayat Abro outside polling station-29 of Hyderabad Development Authority office when he fired in the air after victory of PPP candidates.

In Badin, Pakistan People’s Party activists held a large rally to celebrate the party’s victory. Dr Fahmida Mirza, Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza and Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro who had been unofficially declared winners went in a procession to their voters to express their thanks.

In Nawabshah, thousands of PPP workers and supporters, raising slogans and dancing, gathered at Zardari House. They also staged rallies from different parts of the district and distributed sweets.

In Thatta, activists celebrated success of their party and danced outside PPP office, Soomro Manzil and Palijo House.

In Mirpurkhas, hundreds of PPP workers held a rally. Activists including women and men danced outside the press club and showered rose petals on the portrait of late Benazir Bhutto. They also burnt a bicycle - election symbol of PML - and distributed sweets.

Meanwhile, hundreds of MQM supporters held a rally in their stronghold as their supporters threw rose petals on them. The rally passed through main roads of the city.
