TIMERGARA, Feb 19: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has emerged as the major party by securing four out of the five (one NA and four PF) seats in Lower Dir district.

The Awami National Party (ANP) got one seat in the district.

On NA-34, Malik Azmat Khan (PPP) bagged 37,946 votes and was declared as the winner, while his close rival Mohammad Ayub Khan (ANP) got 24,431 votes. One independent candidate from this constituency, Shamsul Qamar, died of cardiac arrest on the polling day. He got 757 votes. The turnout remained 24.20 per cent. On PF-94, Mahmood Zeb (PPP) polled 11,085 votes against his rival Azam Khan (ANP), who secured 5,772, while MMA’s Qazi Fazlullah got 3,729 votes. The turnout remained 23.6 per cent.

Haji Hidayatullah (ANP) won PF-95 by polling 9,776 votes against his rival Rahmatullah (PPP), who got 9,126 votes.

On PF-96, PPP candidate Mohammad Zamin emerged victorious by bagging 6,925 votes against Naeem Jan of ANP with 4,674 votes.

PPP candidate Dr Zakirullah was declared successful on PF-97 by obtaining 9,796 votes against Mohammad Ishaq of PPP-Sherpao, who got 9,295.

A wave of jubilation ran among the workers of the PPP, who distributed sweets in different areas to celebrate the party’s victory in the conservative district. PPP lawmakers-elect Malik Azmat Khan, Mahmood Zeb and Mohammad Zamin, while talking to journalists, pledged that they would serve the people without party affiliation.
