KARACHI, Feb 18: Islahuddin Siddiqui, the newly appointed chief selector of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), said on Monday that 37 probables named for the national training camp had been picked with consensus among the selection committee members.
“The probables were picked on the basis of their performances in the Champions Trophy and national championship through consensus by the four-member committee,” Islah said on Monday.
“Samiullah, Mudassar Asghar, Khawaja Zakauddin and I finalised the probables’ list after a detailed discussion,” he added. “Merit, past and present performances were the criteria while selecting the players,” he added.
Half-back Dilawar Hussain and forward Mohammad Shabbir have criticised the PHF and the selectors for axing them from the probables’ list.
Commenting on the inclusion of half-backs Waseem Ahmad and Mohammad Saqlain, Islah said both had been called on the basis of their performance in the nationals.
He made it clear Waseem and Saqlain’s performance will be under scrutiny during the trials at the camp starting in Lahore on Thursday.—APP
