Poll results prepared a month ago, claims Qazi

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Feb 17: Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Husain Ahmed has said that election results had been prepared a month ago and would be announced on Monday (toady).

Speaking at a reception in honour of the newly-elected members of Islamic Lawyers Movement in different bar associations here on Sunday, he said the government had created an atmosphere of fear and imposed restrictions on the media to protect the unconstitutional steps taken by President Pervez Musharraf to prolong his rule. He would, however, fail in his attempt.

He said the All Parties Democratic Movement would set up camps for boycott of elections in every district where the lawyers and APDM leaders would explode the myth of transparency of elections. He condemned the bar leaders for taking oath as judges of superior courts and demanded release of judges placed under unlawful detention since Nov 3.

He said the parties contesting the elections in general and Mian Nawaz Sharif in particular should forget that they would succeed in getting the judges of superior courts restored by securing two-third seats in the parliament. The political parties should prepare for a mass movement which was the only way for getting the judges restored.

APDM joint committee chairman Liaquat Baloch said the general elections were a historic fraud and the contesting political parties would face only defeat and shame.

He said the government had created so much fear through suicide bombings and suppression that the people might not gather for protests against rigging in elections.

He said Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani should not only announce dissociation of armed forces from politics but also from the National Security Council for restoring the reputation of the army.

Meanwhile, in a statement Qazi Husain said it would be hard for the future government to complete a single parliamentary year.

“A hung parliament will come into place after the fraud elections because it suits to President Musharraf. Taking part in polls means to support him (Musharraf).”
