Four ‘sensitive’ constituencies

LAHORE, Feb 16: Four national assembly constituencies were declared more sensitive in the provincial capital on polling day, Dawn learnt on Saturday.

Rangers and army will be positioned in these constituencies to reach the troubled spots on time.

Sources say NA-129, NA-128, NA-130 and NA-123, all rural, are the most sensitive in the light of the factors of political/personal rivalries, unexpected results and display and use of weapons.

“Attack on activists of each other and polling stations, halting polling forcibly on chances of defeat and harassment of voters of each other are the possibilities in the four constituencies,” says a source. The capital city police have been informed about the possible violence in these constituencies.

NA-129 is the most troubled constituency in which Maj Habibullah Warraich (retired) of the PML-Q, Tariq Shabbir advocate of the PPP and Sardaar Adil Umer of the PML-N are the major contestants.

NA-128 is being considered the second sensitive constituency where Malik Afzal Khokhar of PML-N and Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar of PPP are confronting each other.

Col (retired) Rana Muhammad Tariq of PPP and Abdul Rasheed Bhatti of PML-Q for PP-161 are also in the run.

NA-130 is sensitive where arch rivals Samina Khalid Ghurki of the PPP and Muhammad Ashiq Dayial of the PML-Q are contesting and their supporters can create a law and order situation following the past experience.

The fear of possible violence also exists in NA-123 from where independent candidate Ikhlaq Ahmad Gudoo, Javed Hashmi of the PML-N and Azizur Rehman Chan of the PPP are major candidates for the national assembly seat.

Capital city police officer (additional IG) Malik Iqbal, when contacted, said Rangers and army were being deployed at different locations in such a way that they could reach at any troubled constituency within the shortest possible time. —Muhammad Faisal Ali
