KARACHI: Bomb threats haunt citizens

Published February 17, 2008

KARACHI, Feb 16: Despite strict security measures claimed by the relevant authorities during the elections, an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty continues to prevail in the city reportedly due to the circulation of rumours about bombs planted in schools and shopping centres.

Not a single day is passed without such rumours making the rounds in the city. Fortunately, all of them have so far proved to be hoax.

On Saturday, the relevant authorities received two tele-phone calls from unidentified persons informing them about a bomb planted somewhere in Juna Market and another in a showroom situated near Awami Markaz on main Sharea Faisal.

However, after search of these areas, it was established that both were hoax calls. Similarly, three calls were received on Friday.—PPI
