KARACHI, Feb 15: Taking serious notice of indiscipline, the Sindh Tennis Association (STA) on Friday imposed a two-month ban on two of its players, barring them from competing in any Sindh ranking tournaments.
The players have been identified as former Davis Cupper Nomi Qamar and Khalid Ali Nazar.
The STA let-off the other two members of the team, namely, Robin Das and Ali Zubair after warning.
Both Nomi and Khalid are charged for breach of discipline in the Karachi-Hyderabad tennis final of the 11th Sindh Games at Sukkur on Thursday.
Hyderabad became the new champions when they dethroned holders Karachi 2-1 in the title clash marred by ugly scenes in presence of the acting Sindh Sports Minister.
Hosts Sukkur secured the bronze in the event, participated by three teams.
The STA alleged that not only did Nomi and Khalid object to some of the umpiring decisions, they also refused to receive their medals from the chief guest.
According to results, Karachi surged 1-0 up in the match when Nomi Qamar was home against Hyderabad’s Shabbir Gul 6-0 (retd) in the opener.
Hyderabad neutralised when the pair of Saad Baloch/Shabbir Gul shocked Nomi/Khalid 7-5, 7-6 (0) in the doubles.
Saad Baloch finally steered his team to a 2-1 victory by getting the better of Khalid 6-0, 6-0 in the decisive singles.
