ISLAMABAD, Feb 14: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has convened a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Commi-ttee (CEC) in Islamabad on February 19 to decide whether to accept or reject the poll results.
“Yes, the CEC is meeting in Islamabad and the agenda is election manzoor (acceptable) or namanzoor (unacceptable),” PPP spokesman Farhatullah Khan Babar told Dawn on Thursday.
Mr Babar said the meeting would review the situation arising out of the February 18 election and finalise the party’s future line of action.
He said that if the party accepted the results, the CEC members would deliberate on the party’s candidate for the office of the prime minister. The meeting would weigh its options regarding alliances with other political parties for forming the government at the centre and provinces.
PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said his party would decide about holding a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) only after announcement of the election results.
He said the PPP was convening its CEC meeting way too early and added that it would be difficult to thoroughly analyze the post-election scenario on Feb 19.
