Public Transport impounded

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Feb 14: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and local traffic police have impounded several public transport vehicles to transport election staff, leaving commuters in the lurch.

The public transport situation deteriorated further when transporters took their vehicles, which had not not been impounded so far, off the road.

According to a report, the RTA secretary and other staff and traffic police officials set up pickets at Rawalpindi Bypass, Chand da Qila Bypass and Khiali Bypass intersections and all roads leading to Gujranwala on Thursday morning, stopped public transport vehicles, told commuters to leave and seized the vehicles. In consequence, several commuters, including women and children, suffered.
