KARACHI: Land scam case against DIG adjourned

By A Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 14: The Accountability Court-I headed by Syed Aley Maqbool Rizvi on Thursday adjourned till Feb 28 the hearing of a reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau against a DIG, Altaf Hussain Bhatti, and others.

The DIG was arrested on Dec 4 for misusing his authority to acquire more than 500 acres of government land in Thatta district. On Thursday, the court re-issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of the other accused nominated in the reference. Four of the co-accused in the case have been granted bail by the Sindh High Court.

The NAB has accused the DIG of illegally transferring small pieces of state land in fake names and getting them allotted to himself, his family members and other relatives.

Meanwhile, the Accountability Court-V on Thursday adjourned till March 12 a reference (No.21/2007) filed by the NAB against an operation theater technician working in the state-run Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town, Muhammad Akram Nadeem.

According to the reference, the accused had accumulated assets valued at over Rs4.5 million beyond his known sources of income while working in this capacity during 1984 to 2003.
