KARACHI: Journalist’s killing flayed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 13: With a number of media personnel having been killed or injured in recent days, it is clear that the authorities have failed to provide protection to journalists. This has serious repercussions for press freedom in the country, according to the Karachi Union of Journalists which held a protest meeting at the press club here on Tuesday to condemn the killing of senior journalist Dr Chishti Mujahid in Quetta this week.

Characterising his killing as “an attack on press freedom”, the meeting demanded arrest of culprits and payment of adequate compensation to the bereaved family. The resolutions adopted at the meeting said that the journalists discharging their duties in the interior of Sindh were particularly vulnerable to such attacks.
