ISLAMABAD, Feb 11: Caretaker Interior Minister Lt-Gen (retired) Hamid Nawaz on Monday said no one would be allowed to violate the law during the election process for which all security arrangements had been put in place.
Talking to reporters during a visit to the National Police Academy, the minister said that deployment of army units in sensitive areas would begin from Tuesday, adding that flag marches would also be carried out by the troops.
According to Mr Khan, the government would ensure foolproof security for foreign observers and media persons during the polls. “They will be taken to each and every constituency during the election for coverage except for some sensitive areas in Swat, Fata, Kurram agency, Sindh and Balochistan,” he added.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to holding free, fair and transparent elections. He urged the people and political parties to cooperate with the authorities for peaceful conduct of the poll process.
About Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, Mr Khan said more than one plotter was present when the blast took place, adding that security personnel had so far arrested four suspects who were being interrogated.
He said the Scotland Yard team’s report on the assassination probe was similar in facts to Pakistani investigation.
The minister described the Saturday’s suicide blast in Charsadda as an attempt by terrorists to sabotage the election process.
