LAHORE, Feb 11: Four-goal Juan Garcia Gross helped Bank Alfalah notch up a 5-4 win against Emaar on the first day of National Polo championship for Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup on Monday.
In the first of three matches of the opening day, the bankers were ahead 3-0 till the end of two chukkers. Grossi had scored two while Shah Shamyl Alam one.
However, Diego White, who scored all four for the losers, fired his first in the third chukker to reduce the lead 3-1. Both the teams added one goal each in the fourth chukker as Grossi pumped in his third and White his second to make the score 4-2. In the fifth chukker White launched more efforts and scored two goals but the fourth one from Grossi proved the decider.
Nine-goal Hissam Ali Hyder stole the show in ABN Amro Bank 13-6 triumph against Telenor. Except the third chukker, Hissam excelled in four chukker as he kept constant pressure on the rivals.
He had scored two each in the first two chukker and added two more in the fourth and three in the fifth. Jose Rivas (2) and Sufi Mohammad Haris and Sufi Mohammad Amir with one goal each were other scorers.
For the losers, Asif Tiwana and Miguel Del Carril scored two each while Agha Murtaza Ali Khan and Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana contributed one.
In the last match, five-goal Ignacio Toccacino enabled Lindt Chocolate beat Guard Rice/Al Khan 7-4. Saqib Khan Khakwani and Mian Hussain Iftikhar chipped in with one goal each. For the losers, Manual Crespo scored three while Saqib Khan Khakwani added one.
