KHANEWAL, Feb 11: Six dacoits on Monday evening looted gold ornaments and cash worth Rs5.1 million at the Choparhatta main market on Kabirwala-Jhang Road, about 30km away from here in Sarai-Saddhu, Kabirwala police precincts.

After the incident, scores of traders and locals blocked Kabirwala-Jhang Road for three hours and chanted slogans against the police for not reaching the spot on time.

Reports said the dacoits riding two motorbikes entered four jewellery shops owned by Sheikh Pervaiz, Sheikh Javaid, Sheikh Imran and Manzoor Ahmad and made off with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs5.1 million.

The accused resorted to aerial firing before the strikes and fled towards Zafar Road.

“I can’t tell you the exact situation about the incident and how much gold was looted by the dacoits,” said Kabirwala Deputy Superintendent Police Malik Muhammad Yousaf.
