KARACHI: PPP candidate sent to jail

KARACHI, Feb 11: The judical magistrate-III, Central, Khushi Mohammad, on Monday sent a PPP candidate and a worker to jail on judicial remand till Feb 21.

Sohail Delhvi, contesting the Feb 18 elections from PS-99 on the ticket of Pakistan People’s Party, and Abdul Jabbar, a PPP activist, were arrested on Feb 7 on charges of allegedly kidnapping Ismail Rajput, a union council nazim of New Karachi Town.

They allegedly tortured the UC nazim. Another PPP candidate, Zafar Ahmed Siddiqui, was also nominated in the FIRs.

The police registered four cases (FIR Nos. 24, 25, 26 and 27/08) against the accused at New Karachi police station on the complaint of Ismail Rajput under Sections 506, 337-F, 365, 353 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Pre-arrest bail

The additional district and sessions judge, Central, Gulshan Ara Chandio, granted pre-arrest bail to Zafar Ahmed Siddiqui in two cases against surety bonds of Rs50,000 each and fixed March 5 for his re-appearance in court regarding the confirmation of his bail.

The cases (FIR 24 and 26/08) were registered against the accused on the complaint of Ismail Rajput for allegedly kidnapping and torturing him.
