MITHI, Feb 10: Former chief minister and president of the Punjab chapter of Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, has advised Nawaz Sharif to apologise to Justice (retd) Sajjad Ali Shah, former chief justice of Pakistan, for attacking him and other supreme court judges during his second tenure as prime minister.

Addressing a public gathering in the sports complex ground here on Sunday, he said Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari had launched a negative propaganda campaign to fool the people who wanted the country to be taken out of backwardness. The PML-Q, he said, worked for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

“PPP remained in power twice and Zardari became famous as Mr 10 per cent. If he (Zardari) re-enters the corridors of power, he will become Mr 100 per cent,” Mr Elahi said.

Mr Zardari, he alleged, looted the country for ten years, purchased the Surrey Mansion, deposited the ill-gotten wealth in banks of Switzerland and Spain. However, he should not remain under the impression that the National Reconciliation Ordinance was going to help him avoid returning the looted money.

While PPP was mourning Benazir’s assassination, he said, Mr Zardari had become co-chairman of the party, upsetting PPP activists.

Criticising Nawaz Sharif, he said that when he visited Gen Zia’s grave he said he would follow the mission of Zia and when he visited Naudero he pledged to accomplish Benazir’s mission.

Responding to demands raised by Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in his speech, Mr Elahi said that gas would be provided to Thar on a priority basis, work on the Thar coal project would be expedited and steps would be taken to irrigate barren lands of Sindh.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, Dr Arbab Rahim claimed that the next prime minister would be from PML-Q which would form the governments at centre and in all the provinces after winning the elections with a thumping majority.

Pir Gul Mohammad Shah Jilani, Ghaffar Qureshi, Arbab Attaullah, Abdur Razzaq Rahimoon, Dr Ghulam Haider Samejo, Rajvir Singh, Qasim Soomro, Qurban Ali Shah, Khadim Ali Shah and Ali Bux Shah also addressed the meeting.
