PESHAWAR: Blasts destroy four shops; 90 shells seized

PESHAWAR, Feb 10: Two explosions in the jurisdiction of Peshtakhara police station destroyed two CDs shops, a barber shop and a general store late Saturday night, police said.Police said that a bomb went off near Canal Road which destroyed a CD shop owned by Waqif Khan and a barber shop owned by Mumtaz.
The second explosion took place at Spina Warai Landai Kanday, which damaged a video centre owned by Bilal and a general store owned by Abdur Razaq
Meanwhile, police claimed to have foiled a terrorism bid by recovering various kinds of shells and other explosives hidden near Chamkani village.
When contacted, police told Dawn that the recovered ammunitions included 86 mortar shells, 18 fuse, four artillery shells, five rocket launchers and other explosive materials.
A police spokesman said the explosives were defused by the officials of Bomb Disposal Squad.
Our Correspondent from Landi Kotal adds: The political authorities have arrested an Afghan suspect with explosives in Wazir Dand area of Khyber tribal region on Sunday.
According to officials, personnel of the Khassadar Force stopped a man along the railway track near Peshawar and recovered an explosive device from his bag after thorough search.
