PESHAWAR: Poll under Musharraf termed a drama

By Ashfaq Yusufzai

PESHAWAR, Feb 10: The Jamaat-i-Islami’s provincial leader Sirajul Haq has said that political parties contesting elections under the present set up have equally supported the unconstitutional rule of President Musharraf.

The JI leader said that if the Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and other political parties had unanimously boycotted polls under the present regime President Musharraf would have resigned in the face of mounting pressure.

He was addressing a luncheon organised by the JI in honour of the newly elected office-bearers of the Khyber Union of Journalists and Peshawar Press Club here on Sunday.

Mr Haq alleged that the president had become a security risk for the country. He claimed that some 80 per cent crises and issues would be resolved with the resignation of the regime.

He added that military ruler was responsible for the ongoing bloodshed, lawlessness and insecurity in Pakistan.
