Three held for making fake driving licences

ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: The city police on Saturday night arrested three persons on the charge of making forged driving licences of the Islamabad Traffic Police.

The accused were produced in the court of law from where they were handed over to the police for two days’ physical remand.

The police said efforts were underway to arrest another accused who prepared forged driving licences for his agents.

A citizen complained to the Tarnol police that he had paid Rs5,000 to a man - MI - a resident of Kohat, for arranging a driving licence for him. After getting the licence, he gave it to a traffic official for verification. But the licence turned out to be forged. Later, he reported the matter to the police.

On the directive of the police, the complainant called MI and told him that he wanted to meet him as he needed more licences. The accused asked him to reach 26 Number Chongi. A police team also went there and arrested the accused and recovered five forged licences from his possession.

During interrogation, he revealed that he was working in a heavy machinery training centre at Tarnol. He said he had two more accomplices working at the same place - a clerk and a bulldozer operator. The police later also arrested them.

The accused told the police that they were arranging forged licences through a man in Talagang. A police team was sent to Talagang to arrest the accused but he could not be traced. —Staff Reporter
