GUJRANWALA, Feb 8: A local court on Friday summoned the district coordination officer, the DIG and the town nazim to appear before court on Monday for allegedly backing a PML-Q aspirant.
Petitioner Rana Faisal Rauf, a PPP candidate for PP-91 seat, told Returning Officer (RO) Sheikh Muhammad Akram that the PML-Q had fielded against him its candidate Amir Farooq Khan, the brother of Khiali town nazim Adil Farooq Khan.
He told the RO that on the direction of the DIG to provide `every support’ to his opponent, DIG’s subordinates were not only harassing his voters but also implicating them in fake cases.
The petitioner further alleged that the DCO, in clear violation of election code of conduct, allowed the town nazim to get completed uplift projects in Nandipur town, which is out of his jurisdiction.
On the other hand, Rana Nazir Ahmed Khan, the PML-N aspirant for NA-99 seat, requested the court to declare eight polling stations sensitive in Kamoki as his rival PML-Q aspirant Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan was planning rigging that might lead to a clash on the election day.
The court directed the CPO to present his report in relation to the allegation on Monday.
Another aspirant of PPP for NA-97 seat, Dr Zafar Chaudhry and others, told the court that polling stations in remote areas should be changed for voters could not reach there because the recent spell of rain had badly damaged school buildings.
The judge sought a report from the assistant election commissioner on the same day.
DEFAULTERS: The Gepco operational manager on Friday informed the district returning officer that two candidates contesting elections for the seats of national and provincial assemblies were defaulters.
The Gepco official said that default money should be got recovered from former provincial minister of PML-Q Dr Sohail Zafar Cheema (PP-97) and PPP candidate Zeeshan Ilyas (NA-95).
TARGET: The Punjab Excise and Taxation director-general held responsible the entire staff for their failure to achieve the recovery target and constituted special recovery teams for the purpose.
It was learnt that the provincial government had fixed Rs280 million the recovery target during the fiscal year 2007-08, but the taxation staff could recover only Rs80 million during the first seven months.
After reviewing the report, director-general Sikandar Hayat summoned the entire staff, including two ETOs, six ATOs and 22 inspectors, to his office in Lahore and warned them to achieve the target.
HOSPITAL: The 50-bed Wapda hospital has been completed at a cost of Rs90 million while Rs10 million have been allocated for medicines and provision of better health cover to patients.
Medical Superintendent Dr Javed Tabish said here on Friday that the hospital was bearing all expenditures regarding operations of patients and their medicines.
He said that at least 200 operations were being conducted every month where surgeons and physicians were available in shifts.
