Rough seas claim three lives; four missing

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb 6: Rough seas claimed the lives of three fishermen after two fishing boats sank in the Arabian Sea off Iran’s coast. Four fishermen are missing.

“Bodies of three fishermen have been found,” Wahid Bakhsh Baloch, tehsil Nazim of Jiwani, told Dawn on Wednesday.

He said that two fishermen of Bengali origin living in Jiwani had ventured out on Feb 2, adding that their small boat sank between Jiwani and Ganz area of Gwadar district because of unusually high tides and strong winds. Their bodies have been found.

The second boat was of Indian origin and it sank off Iran’s coast near Pasa Bandar. Five Indian fishermen are believed to have drowned while seven others managed to swim to the coast.
