FAISALABAD, Feb 6: A committee has been constituted by the district administration to resolve the issue of gas supply to textile industries.
A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of district coordination officer Azam Suleman on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by industrialists and officials of the gas supply company.
The committee consisted of presidents of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) and two representatives of each association.
Participants decided that the district would be divided into regions and gas supply would be released accordingly. Industries would also be treated without any preference and without considering their agreement of nine and 12 months of supply.
The DCO asked officials of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to treat all industrialists equally instead of any preference and prepare a schedule keeping in view the ground realities.
He also asked the SNGPL officials to keep in touch with each industrialist and seek his assistance in case of any impediment.
Meanwhile addressing a press conference, the APTPMA regional chairman said the SNGPL officials had devised a gas supply strategy and divided all segments of people into four categories and the textile sector was the last priority in the plan, which was pathetic. — Staff Correspondent
