KARACHI: Man kills wife, mother-in-law in Orangi

KARACHI, Feb 2: A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law in Orangi Town early on Saturday morning.
Police said Aamir Awan fled the scene after shooting his wife Lubna, 24, and mother-in-law, Khalida, wife of Pervaiz Awan, in the victims’ Bukhari Colony house.
Police registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of Khalida’s elder brother, Saleem Khan.
The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where sources said both victims were shot in the heads from a close range. They said victim Khalida received two bullets, one each in her skull and abdomen.
Victim Lubna was the mother of a three-year-old daughter and an infant son, who were found asleep in the house.
Saleem Khan, who also lives close to the victims’ house, told Dawn that his sister and niece lived alone as his brother-in-law had been in London for the past 15 years.
He said Aamir was the son of his brother-in-law’s elder brother and he was married to Lubna, the only child of his sister, some five year ago.
Saleem said Aamir had estranged relations with his in-laws, who had been quite displeased with him for his constant monetary demands.
“My sister and brother-in-law gave him a lot of money for setting up a business but in vain,” he added.
He said the suspect was living with his widowed mother in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and he used to visit his wife once in a fortnight.
He said his youngest sister was living on the first floor of the house where Khalida lived. “My youngest sister’s family woke up at around 3.30 in the morning, when they heard shots and they saw the suspect running out of the house,” he added.
He said the suspect pumped bullets into the bodies of the victims when they were asleep. He said Lubna’s three-year-old daughter and infant son were found sleeping beside the body of their mother in the pool of blood. “Khalida was found shot dead in her bedroom,” he added.
He said the victims’ funeral would be held on the arrival of his brother-in-law, scheduled to reach here on Sunday.
