KARACHI: Two sent to jail


KARACHI, Feb 1: The administrative judge of an accountability court on Friday sent two accused of embezzlement of more than Rs220 million in the GP funds of the government servants to jail on a judicial remand.

Sultan Ahmed Lashari and Mohammad Ishaq Lashari were arrested on Saturday in Karachi. Accused are teachers in the education department, Shikarpur. The court had also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the accused.

The National Accountability Bureau had filed references against 67 officials of the education department, National Bank and the officials of rural development.

They along with the co-accused passed 1,096 bills on the pretext of GP funds including 581 bogus bills and misappropriated more than Rs220million.

The accused also made bills with fake names and got them cleared with the help of the employees of the National Bank of Pakistan, Shikarpur main branch.

The manager of the bank branch, Zulfiqar Ali Sheikh, senior auditor of Shikarpur Accounts Office, Noor Mohammad Ujan, are the co-accused in the case.—PPI
