LAHORE, Jan 31: Syed Shahid Ali Shah and Idris Haider Khawaja were re-elected as the president and secretary of the Punjab Olympic Association (POA) here on Thursday at the General Council meeting of the body.

In all, the representatives of thirty three affiliated bodies reposed their confidence in Shahid and Khawaja, electing them for a fresh term of four years.

The surprisingly smooth polls brought an end to a long period of uncertainty after a group headed by Khawar Shah withdrew his stay order case against POA and announced his un-conditional support to Shahid.

“We are delighted that the POA has elected its office bearers without any controversy in a fair and free manner which shows unity among our ranks,” said the re-elected president at a news conference.

The following office bearers were elected: President - Syed Shahid Ali; Vice presidents - Iftikhar Ali Malik, Khawaja Farooq Saeed, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Zoraiz Lashari, Khalid Bashir, Ahmer Malik, Parveen S Gill; Secretary — Idris Haider Khawaja; Treasurer — Bashir A Gill and one representative each from Punjab Bodybuilding Association, Punjab Boxing Association, Punjab Football Association and Punjab Hockey Association.—APP
