No promotion for Sindh officers

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Jan 31: No officer of the secretariat group from Sindh has been selected for promotion by the Central Selection Board at its meeting held on November 7 last year although eight officers from the province were among the 45 considered for promotion by the board.

Sources told Dawn that on recommendation of the board 15 officers were promoted by the government. Of them, nine belonged to Punjab, two to the NWFP, one each from Balochistan, Northern Areas and Fata and another whose details could not be known.

The sources said that none of the eight officers from Sindh considered by the board was recommended for promotion.

Quota system does not apply in matters of promotion of officers of the secretariat group but, the sources said, in view the tradition it had been expected that at least two officers from Sindh (one each from rural and urban areas) would be promoted.

One of the officers is reported to have made a representation to the secretary Establishment Division for reconsideration of his case and promotion to BS-21.
