Gavaskar snubbed

ADELAIDE, Jan 28: The Indian batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar, who has been pretty vocal in his support for Harbhajan Singh in the ‘Monkey’ controversy involving Andrew Symonds, was kept out of the presentation party at the end of the final Test at the Adelaide Oval on Monday.

The Test trophy between the two teams is called the ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’ and Gavaskar, who was present at the ceremony, looked distinctly uncomfortable when he was not invited to be on the dais to give away the trophy to the winners, Australia.

The former Indian Test captain, who has been present Down Under all through the series as a commentator for ESPN-Star, in his scathing comments over the Sydney row went so far as to say that match referee Mike Procter took the word of an Aussie over an Indian, insinuating that there was white versus colour bias in the judgement.

He was later criticized for his outburst by a number of international players and officials around the world.—Agencies
