EC receives 1,378 complaints


ISLAMABAD, Jan 26: The Election Commission has received 1,378 complaints from across the country on matters pertaining to the Feb 18 general election. Sindh has sent the highest number of complaints (595), followed by Punjab (527), NWFP (137), Balochistan (89), the federal capital (26) and Fata (4).

A total of 254 complaints pertained to polling stations, 211 to issues of violence, 194 to violations of the code of conduct, 178 to civil servants and the rest to electoral rolls, tehsil nazims, union nazims and polling staff.

Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad told APP that no complaint was pending with the organisation.

“All complaints either have been forwarded to district returning officer for inquiry or sent to respective provincial governments,” Mr Dilshad said.

According to the commission, the highest number of complaints has been received against the district nazims in Punjab, followed by 43 in Sindh, 14 in NWFP and one in Balochistan.

Seven complaints have been filed against the district nazims of Gujrat followed by five each against Tando Allahyar, Naushero Feroz and Jamshoro, four each against D. G. Khan, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Ghotki and Bannu, three each against Rawalpindi, Sukkur, Vehari, Swabi, Khairpur, Kashmore, Attock and Mardan, two each against Sahiwal, Hyderabad, Karachi Central, Shahdad Kot, Bukkar, Sanghar, Rajanpur, Nawabshah and Mansehra district.

One complaint each was filed against the district nazims of Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, Umerkot, Chakwaal, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Quetta, Muzaffargarh, Abbottabad, Mianwali, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhang, Sheikhupura, Tharparkar, Dadu, Malakand (PA), Faisalabad, Pakpattan and Gujranwala.—APP
