LAHORE, Jan 26: The Joint Action Committee for Katchi Abadis has demanded provision of alternative accommodation to the residents of demolished katchi abadis.

The demand was voiced at a meeting of representatives of 18 such katchi abadis, including Benazir Colony, Sabzazar, Sikandria Colony, Bund Road, Shadman Colony, Ghausia Colony, Walton Road, held here on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, All-Pakistan Katchi Abadis Alliance President Bushra Khaliq, Joint Action Committee Secretary General Azra Shad and Labour Party spokesman Farooq Tariq said that the government had promised giving ownership rights to residents of kachi abadis existing before 1985 but the families dislocated as a result of demolition of abadis had not been accommodated anywhere as yet.—Reporter
