KARACHI: Transfers of senior Sindh officers revoked: EC

KARACHI, Jan 26: The Sindh government has revoked transfers of senior officials on the directive of the chief election commissioner, Justice (retd) Qazi Mohammad Farooq.

This was stated by the secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Kunwar Mohammad Dilshad, at a briefing here on Saturday.

He said that the four to five important transfers included those of the Sukkur and Tando Mohammad Khan DPOs and the Nausheroferoze DCO. He said some political parties had reservations about those transfers.

The EC secretary said that to address the issue, the Sindh government had withdrawn those important transfers and the officials had been restored to their previous positions.

“This augurs well,” he remarked and pointed out that the Sindh government had assured the EC that no transfer would be effected without its permission. The EC is moving in a systematic manner about complaints being received by it.

Mr Dilshad said the process was handled in a transparent manner and on the internet. “This has also been observed by the representatives of the European Union in Pakistan and they are happy about it.”

He also pointed out that when the EC referred a complaint to the district and sessions judge, he issued a notice promptly to the person concerned.

The EC secretary said that about 1,400 complaints had been received from all over the country and of them 400 had been disposed of. He said that in the wake of the tragic event of Dec 27, 2007, EC offices in 11 districts of Sindh were also affected. All those offices had been reactivated.—APP
