LAHORE, Jan 25: The Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), Punjab, has received 170 applications from Sindhi people for compensation of the losses they reportedly suffered as a result of violent reaction after the assassination of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27.

However, party sources said on Friday the PML-Q leaders had not decided as yet whether and when to make up the losses of the victims.

It is said that since the government has also launched a plan to compensate all the affected people, the applicants have been told to approach the official authorities.

The PML-Q leadership will try to help such people from the party funds — but after the polls, PLM-Q sources say.

After the riots erupted across the country after the Liaquat Bagh tragedy, the PML-Q designated some officials at the Muslim League House to receive applications from the affected people. Soon after, the government also launched a scheme to make up the losses of such people.

The victims sent their applications according to the laid down procedure.

However, many applications were written in Sindhi language, not understood by the party leadership. As a result, such applications were ignored. Some other applications were not legible, which were also put aside.

It is said that some applicants reported that they had suffered losses worth Rs6 million to Rs7 million.

According to one source, the party was not in a position to make up such heavy losses and it was for this reason that they have been advised to approach the official authorities.—Political Correspondent.
