MATLI, Jan 25: District Nazim Ali Anwar Halepota has said that low-cost housing and desalination of sub-soil water projects will be launched soon in Badin.

Speaking at a briefing on uplift projects in the district, Mr Halepota said the low-cost houses would be constructed in collaboration with the United Nation Development Programme. A separate UNDP project was already underway to purify underground salt water.

The district nazim said a plan had been finalised to beautify the district and Rs10 million would be spent on Badin under the programme. He said the Community Citizen Boards of the district had been ordered to implement such programmes in their respective areas.

Mr Halepota said the civil hospital in Badin would be upgraded in collaboration with the British Petroleum Company. He said a blood bank would be established at the Badin Thalassemia Centre. He said that Rs11.5 million would be spent on improving the Badin High School.

UNDP Country Coordinator Masood Lohar said the price of each house under the programme would be between Rs120,000 and 150,000, and each hut would cost Rs15,000.—PPI
