KARACHI: KUTS says no to election duty

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 22: The teaching staff of the University of Karachi will not perform election duties.

A decision to this effect was taken at the general body meeting of the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) here on Tuesday.

The decision of boycotting the election duties was taken in unison with the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA), which had decided earlier that no public sector university would take part in the election duty.

The KUTS also maintained that since no other cities of the province had asked its universities to perform such duties therefore it was unfair for the KU staff to be asked for it.

The general body recommended the vice-chancellor to withdraw teachers’ names from such notices and letters immediately and inform the Election Commission of Pakistan accordingly. It was also decided that otherwise teachers would launch a protest campaign.
