KARACHI, Jan 21: The Gymkhana race meeting which was scheduled to resume at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday after a fortnight’s break of Moharram, has been postponed as the horses are still in the grip of equine influenza.
The handicap for Wednesday’s meeting could not be taken out on Monday due to situation arising from the outbreak of the disease.
An official of the KRC told Dawn that at least fifty percent improvement was visible among the ailing horses that were affected with the viral infection.
However, the situation seems to be alarming as despite precautionary measures the disease was fast catching up those horses that remained unaffected with the bout earlier, he added.
He said some of the horses have undergone track work almost after two-week as they were confined in their stables.
The official disclosed if situation allows, handicap will be taken out on Thursday for Sunday (Dec 27) meeting.
