PTV hold Wapda 2-2 in soccer league

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 21: A 60th minute goal from Zulifqar Ali Shah enabled Wapda to survive a scare with a 2-2 draw against minnows Pakistan Television (PTV) in the Pakistan Premier League football at Railways Stadium on Monday.

Wapda were hot favorites against the PTV and they had also made a stormy start when striker Arif Mehmood opened the account in the second minute of play. He met Zulfiqar’s left wing cross and with a well timed header past PTV’s keeper Mujahid Sarfraz, to score his 20th goal in the event.

But PTV roared back and pumped in back-to-back goals to take a creditable 2-1 lead against the favourites. They fired the equaliser in the 10th minute, when Naimat Ullah found the net, beating opponent’s goalie Abdul Aziz.

Seven minutes before the interval, winger Gulfam surged PTV ahead after a fine work by Ali Sher and Ishaq. His nice placement left Aziz stranded as PTV led the first half 2-1.

The second session saw both the outfits forced real chances, but Wapda had a sigh of relief in the 60th minute when Zulfiqar cut in from left and deflected the ball past Mujahid with low drive into right corner for a 2-2 score.

A solitary goal from Abid Gill helped the leaders and defending champions Army edge past Railways 1-0 at the same venue.

Striker Abid struck his seventh goal of the event in the 33rd minute as Army pocketed three valuable points.
